buffalo

We are on the way to Edmond for meetings at YouVersion. Our route took us near the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge—a place that holds one of the most powerful stories in our nation’s history.

This is where the American buffalo were saved.

By the late 1800s, millions had been reduced to just a few hundred—nearly wiped out by greed, excess, and unchecked expansion. But through the courage, generosity, and sacrifice of a few leaders, a small herd was protected, gathered, and given a place to recover right here in this corner of Oklahoma.

It’s both beautiful and sobering.

A reminder of how quickly something can be lost—and how intentionally it must be restored.
